Emergency Dental Appointments
Dental emergencies don’t wait for a convenient moment, and neither do we. At SmileSavers, we set aside time every day for urgent appointments so patients experiencing sudden pain, injury, or infection can be seen quickly, assessed thoroughly, and treated without delay.
Our approach in an emergency is straightforward: address the immediate problem first, manage your discomfort, and make sure you leave with a clear picture of what happened and what comes next. We know dental emergencies can be stressful, and we do everything we can to make the experience as calm and efficient as possible.

Common Questions About Urgent Dental Care
What should I do before I can get to the practice?
For a severe toothache, rinse with warm water and take over-the-counter pain relief as directed. Avoid placing aspirin directly against the gum as this can cause irritation. For a knocked-out tooth, handle it by the crown rather than the root, rinse it gently if it’s dirty, and try to place it back in the socket. If that’s not possible, keep it in a small container of milk or your own saliva and get to us as quickly as you can. Time matters with knocked-out teeth. For a broken tooth, save any pieces, rinse your mouth with warm water, and apply a cold compress to the outside of your face if there’s swelling. These are temporary measures only and the sooner you’re seen the better.
How quickly can you see me?
We aim to see emergency patients on the same day they call. When you ring, our team will ask a few quick questions to understand the situation and prioritise accordingly. Patients with severe pain, trauma, or signs of infection are seen as urgently as possible. If we can’t fit you in the same day, we’ll get you in first thing the following morning and give you guidance on managing symptoms in the meantime. For situations that arise outside our hours, we’ll make sure you have information on after-hours options so you’re not left without support.
Will my health fund cover emergency treatment?
Most health funds that include dental extras will cover at least part of emergency treatment, though the amount varies between policies. We’re preferred providers for most major funds and will check your coverage when you arrive and process your claim on the spot. If you don’t have health insurance, we offer competitive self-pay rates and can talk through payment options for any follow-up treatment needed. We’ll always be upfront about costs before proceeding so there are no surprises.
